Gumpert has recently unveiled the Apollo and Apollo R models during the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, where the Apollo R is a race car and the Apollo is the street legal Enraged special edition.
According to the car manufacturer, the demand from Asia is what contributed to the birth of a pure race car and its street legal “brother”, and track days are what the Gumpert Apollo R is all about, with private events being taken under consideration too.
“Many of our customers are driving their Apollo on the race course, usually during track days or private events. With the Apollo R, we allow ambitious drivers among them to participate in open GT evnents”, as Roland Gumpert says in a press release.
The Gumpert Apollo R is powered by an Audi-sourced 4.2 liter V8 twin turbo engine, which is developing a total output of 860 HP, while in its standard configuration the unit is generating 650 horsepower. The limited edition Apollo Enraged is defined by a designer paintjob and it’s coming with the German flag embroidered on the seat and headrest, but the most noticeable feature in the cabin is definitely the digital LCD instrument panel. There is no official word on when the two models will be launched yet or what their prices will be.
