Alongside the production version of the electric Morgan also showcased during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show a model that instead looks into the past: 4/4 80th Anniversary Edition.
It is used to pay homage to an “automotive icon,” the special series comes with a range of parts and accessories directly inspired by the original model. We noticed the quad bonnet straps, a brass mesh grille, and retro-inspired wheels with brass center locks, alongside the special edition badging, mohair roof, and side-exiting exhaust system. We were fascinated by the craftsmanship and blend of old and new that represented Morgan’s passing into the 21th century once they unveiled the EV3 but in all earnest the retro fans will be even more enticed by this unforgettable 4/4 80th Anniversary Edition. Stepping inside the cockpit we see designers opting for a matte lacquered walnut dashboard and Period Smiths dials with brass embellishers. Other amenities include leather seats, leather door pull handles, and an individually numbered plaque.
Power is coming courtesy a Ford-sourced 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 110 horsepower and 97 pound-feet of torque. It has been mated to a five-speed manual gearbox that will enable the vehicle to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in eight seconds flat and top out at a speed of 115 mph. The production run will span just 80 units and the model will be available in both British-style right hand driving configuration or the more readily available left hand drive configuration.
