The latest generation of the RAV4 has just received the well known hybrid powertrain and the automaker has decided to celebrate the occasion with an exclusive RAV4 Hybrid Sapphire concept during the Geneva Motor Show.
The prototype wears a custom blue paint, with the one-off keeping the familiar design and then spicing it up with body color bumpers, more chrome trim, as well as bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels for a “more assertive and premium look.” Cabin modifications have been fairly restrained and the concept has black leather upholstery with blue contrast stitching, piano black trim, Hybrid Blue accents, and chrome flourishes. We also noticed the three-spoke steering wheel, adjustable rear seat, and the presence of a ubiquitous infotainment system.
Just like a regular RAV4 Hybrid, the powertrain is hybridized and comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine mated to an electric motor, a nickel-metal hydride battery, and an electric continuously variable transmission. The combined total power stands at 197 horsepower and the performance credentials are pretty impressive: 0-100 kilometers per hour will be achieved in 8.3 seconds while the model only needs 4.9 liters per 100 km and has CO2 of 115 grams per kilometer. The Sapphire concept will remain a show car but Toyota has announced plans to introduce new versions with new body color components and we may even see this exclusive hue offered later on during the vehicle’s life cycle.
