GM CEO Confirms Cadillac S-Class Fighter image

GM CEO Dan Akerson told reporters that the new Cadillac S-class fighter might hit the market by 2015.

Akerson said that the model might hit the market in about two years and that the large luxury sedan will be based on a rear-wheel-drive chassis, but the automaker will also include an all-wheel drive version. Currently the largest Cadillac vehicle is the XTS , but it’s been some time since the automaker has taken into consideration a bigger model.

Since the bankruptcy and reorganization in 2009, the automaker has been focused on manufacturing smaller vehicles, but Akerson believes that now is time for a change. The XTS is expected to remain in the lineup as it still sells quite well, especially in the Chinese market.

During the first half of the year Cadillac sales increased 38% and according to Bob Ferguson, vice president of global Cadillac, sales in the US might jump 30% for the entire 2013. Cadillac relies on its new models to boost sales in the US and globally, including the 2014 CTS which will hit the market this fall.

“The broader point here is you can go into a Cadillac showroom in the middle of 2014, and you look left, and you look right, and the entire product portfolio will be new,” said Ferguson.
