GM Sales in the US Up 16% in July image

General Motors, the largest carmaker in North America sold 234,071 vehicles in the U.S. in July, up 16% compared with the same period last year.

Retail sales were up 23% but fleet sales dropped 16% according to the official press release unveiled by the automaker. On the same time, GM’s passenger vehicle sales increased 24%, including a 42% rise for the mini-, small and compact cars.

“For GM, July was the most well-balanced month of the year from a retail sales standpoint: trucks were hot, but so were small cars and family vehicles,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president, U.S. sales operations. “Our experience shows that the difference between good sales and great sales in a slow-growth economy is how many new products you have to offer, and we are starting to hit our sweet spot.”

Chevrolet sales jumped 31% thanks to high demand for the Spark and the Cruze, which set a record month, but also thanks to the Impala which increased 38%. Cadillac sales were up 34% on high demand for the XTS and ATS. SUV, van and pickup sales increased 16%, while full-size pickups jumped 44%, accounting for the best July since 2007.
