Goodyear working on self-inflating tires image

The Americans at Goodyear are working on a tire which will inflate itself when low pressure is detected in the wheel, making a flat tire seem like something ancient.

The new system developed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is known as Air Maintenance Technology (AMT), it’s based on a very simple idea and doesn’t need any extra exterior equipment.

“While the technology is complex, the idea on which the AMT system is based on it’s quite simple and it’s based on the energy coming from the wheel’s motion. A tire that can keep its pressure by itself is a product which drivers are wanting for many years. Goodyear decided to take on this challenge and the progress made is very encouraging”, said the Goodyear vice-president, Jean-Claude Kihn.

According to the Goodyear manufacturer, this technology will help drivers assure that their tires will have the right pressure, improving the car’s performance, fuel consumption and making it safer.
