Google latest acquisition in its autonomous fleet vehicle is a Lexus RX 450h hybrid SUV.
Google has already tested its Toyota Prius hybrids on a wide variety of traffic conditions and now the company declared that the new RX 450h, only a few months old, will help the specialists further refine the technology but on different terrains and environments, such as snow or around construction zones.
For the moment, each Google self-driving car has two passengers onboard, but the company plans to make the members of the team use the cars solo, for things such as commuting to work. Google also said that in the past few months it had added new algorithms to the RX 450h to be tested on different terrains and new environments.
Google proudly announced that its vehicles, which are on the road at any given time, have covered more than 300,000 miles of testing. Nevada was the first state to license autonomous vehicles only within the state’s borders. It was also the first state to design the first plate for Google’s autonomous Toyota Prius, a red plate with the infinity symbol on it and the AU letters.
