Volkswagen confirmed today the production version of the BlueSport roadster unveiled at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show.
There isn’t a lot of information about the soft top, but as you can see from the pictures the new face of VW, s Polo and Golf adorn the front, with sleeker headlights and a revised grille. Reports say that it will be available with a 2.0-liter 178 hp turbo-diesel lump as standard, with the option of a twin-charged 1.4 liter petrol, as found in the Polo GTI.
The BlueSport will retain the mid-engine layout of the concept and will feature twin luggage compartments — one in the front and one in the rear — like the Porsche Boxster.
The 2,650-pound vehicle is expected to shoot to 60 mph in around six seconds and offer combined fuel economy of around 45 mpg with the diesel powertrain.
There are also rumors about a hybrid version.
