The Chinese based automaker Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Ltd. has recently unveiled its GS5 SUV during the Guangzhou Auto Show in China, with the vehicle entering production in March, 2012, and being scheduled to hit the market in April, next year.
The GS5 SUV presented to the public at the Guangzhou Auto Show was painted in a bright orange which makes it more interesting than the Chinese brown. The new SUV comes with an interesting exterior design, placing it closer to the European looks of its future main rivals. The GS5 comes with fluid lines over its body and thanks to its appealing design, it quickly became the star of the show.
According to the Chinese based automaker, the GS5 SUV takes its power from a 2.0 liter engine which is developing a total output of 150 horsepower and has a peak torque of 180 Nm, mated to a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. Two more powerplants are expected to debut on the GS5 in the form of a 1.8 turbo unit and a larger 2.4 liter.
The automaker says that the Trumpchi GS5 is based on the same platform as the Guangzhou Auto Trumpchi sedan, which, in its turn, is based on the old Alfa Romeo 166.Pricing details haven’t been announced yet but the new GS5 is expected to cost around 120.000rmb. The GS5 will enter production in March, 2012, and it will hit the local auto market one month later.
