DS Automobiles has decided to showcase again the importance of the Chinese market for the French brand, thumb introducing the brand new DS 4S compact hatch at the Guangzhou Motor Show.
The Frankfurt Motor Show was the main event for the new DS 4 and DS 4 Crossback presented back in September and now the French upscale marquee that recently become an independent unit instead of a second line-up in Citroen’s stable is delivering the third model to the compact family – for the time being an exclusive offer on the Chinese auto market, the largest in the world. Designed in France and manufactured in Shenzhen, the “premium compact hatchback” uses familiar design lines and has a large, vertical radiator grille complete with the brand’s logo. Also present are the full-LED headlights with three LED modules, as well as dynamic shaping for the front bumper. The rear comes with its own set of 3D LED taillights.
Moving to the interior, we find the color-matching upholstery – in this case red to go with the exterior shade – complete with elements on the doors, center console, dashboard and red leather on the seats. The French company comments on the dashboard claiming a total of eight hours are needed to have it ready and “embodies the spirit of Parisian luxury craftsmanship”. The DS 4S has a longer wheelbase, with “a record-setting amount of leg room for the compact segment.” Other fine tuning bits engulfed the suspension, which is more compact and thus delivers more head room for the passengers.
Under the hood three engine options – all using gasoline – would be found: two 1.8 THP engines, delivering either 136 HP (100 kW) or 204 HP (150 kW), respectively and matched to a 6-speed automatic. The top choice will be the all-new EB2 Turbo mill coming with “exceptional qualities in terms of high performance and efficiency and also reduces fuel consumption.” First deliveries are expected during the first part of next year.
