Hankook Tire group,the South Korean tiremaker will start suppling tyres for German premium carmaker Daimler Ag, Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Sunday, without citing any sources.
“We want to enter the top group of the world’s leading tyre makers,” the newspaper quoted Jin-Wook Choi, head of European operations at Hankook, as saying.
Daimler was not available for comments.Daimler produces cars and trucks under the brands of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart, Freightliner and many others.
Last month the South Koren giat said operating profit reached 235.3 billion won (208 million U.S. dollars) in the three months ending March 30, up 21.58 percent from the same period of last year.
Sales jumped 17.12 percent on-year to 1.71 trillion won in the first quarter, continuing its double-digit growth trend, but the revenue contracted 4.23 percent compared with three months earlier due to weak seasonality.
