Hella to build new plant in Mexico, invests more than $97mln image

Hella , the German automotive part supplier plans to open a new 215,000-square-foot facility to produce automotive headlamps and rear lighting systems in Irapuato — Mexico, later this spring.

The new plant is scheduled to open in June 2013 with an annual capacity of approximately 1.2 million headlamps and 1.5 million rear combination lamps.

In addition Hella is expanding its actual facilities in Guadalajara, Mexico with a new 9,000-square-foot design and development center for lighting technology.

The new manufacturing facilities will increase HELLA’s annual production capacity in the Americas for headlamps from 3.7 million to 4.9 million. Production capacity for rear combination lamps will grow from 2.5 million to 4 million.

Hella is one of the top 50 global automotive suppliers and belongs to the 100 largest industrial companies in Germany. Globally, the company has over 25,000 employees in more than 70 manufacturing facilities, production subsidiaries and joint venture deals in 30 countries.

In fiscal year 2010-2011, HELLA Group saw a 23 % increase in sales to € 4.4 billion. Ad-justed sales were therefore 17 % above the comparable pre-crisis levels.
