Hennessey 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS goes all the way up to 202 mph image

The American tuner is well known for its outrageous power boost programs and now the aftermarket specialist claims to be the first to have the 2016 Camaro SS pass the 200 mph threshold.

And while other tuners might boost their credentials without anyone believing them we have to remember Hennessey is the one producer that was once able to outpace a Bugatti Veyron in terms of maximum speed. And the famed tuner has also compiled some footage to depict the transition of the Camaro to supercar-level speeds looks like. Just imagine – for example the new Jaguar F-Type SVR high-performance coupe has about the same top speed and costs an arm and a leg compared to the Camaro. This 2016 Camaro SS has a 751 horsepower version of the LT1 V8 engine and Hennessey decided to have the model proving its worth on the Continental Tire Proving Ground in Uvalde, Texas – an 8.5-mile high-speed oval track that represents a near perfect setup for maxing out any car.

The model in the video appears to be using the HPE600 kit (smaller than the HPE750 supercharger kit running 7psi), meaning the speed has been achieved with a naturally aspirated engine – albeit equipped with racing cams, headers, and air intakes. Another 150 horsepower most likely come from the two Nitrous Oxide tanks in the trunk. You should crank up the sound a notch when watching and also give kudos to racing driver Brian Smith for not breaking the manual gearbox.
