Hennessey Performance plays with an 842-hp Cadillac Escalade image

The luxo-barge is not exactly a slouch – given the sprint to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes just six seconds – but Hennessey Performance has decided to make it a worthwhile contender to the Bentley Bentayga.

The Texas-based aftermarket developer has decided its outlandish projects should also encompass the top of the SUV field, so the almost6000 pound (2700 kilograms) behemoth has been treated to more than 800 ponies. The HPE800 package doesn’t really act as an upgrade – it’s more of a different monster altogether: the 6.2-liter V8 Vortex engine is swapped for a 6.8-liter that also gets a hydraulic roller camshaft, forged aluminium pistons, billet steel connecting rods, ported cylinder head, high-flow air intake, HPE engine management system, and lots of other tweaks. And on top of that sits a gigantic 2.9-liter Whipple supercharger running 10 pounds-per-square-inch of boost.

So the results are very impressive: 842 hp (629 kW) and 855 pound-feet (1159 Newton meters) of torque at the flywheel, 637 hp (475 kW) and 644 lb/ft (873 Nm) at the wheels. Hennessey then believes the Caddy will jump to 60 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds – two seconds faster than the standard car and about as fast as a Porsche 718 Cayman S – with the drag race quarter mile done in 12.3 seconds at 112 mph. Of course, the tuner also gives a plethora of suspension and brake upgrades to the Escalade – a sensible thing considering the size and power.
