What do you do when an SUV is just as powerful as a supercar – of course you make it just as powerful as a hypercar, because enough is never enough for some people, and Hennessey knows that oh so well.
The American tuner – well known for its battle with the Bugatti Veyron for the maximum speed record for production cars – is thus no stranger to incredible modifications. But taking a Jeep and giving it Veyron power is certainly something else, though of course not out of reach for the aftermarket specialist. Think of the case here – the most powerful Jeep is the recent Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which is actually more powerful even than the third generation Porsche Cayenne Turbo, with its legacy of the Nurburgring lap speed record. It packs the exact same Hellcat engine seen inside the Charger and Challenger, complete with 707 hp.
But just give a call to Hennessey and performance-obsessed Hennessey Performance Engineering team is going to hook you up to the HPE 1000 kit – arguably just about the same one used for the Exorcist Camaro. Hennessey’s HPE mod takes total power to exactly 1,012 hp and 969 pound-feet of torque, via 4.5-liter supercharger with up to 14 psi of boost, stainless-steel headers, a high-flow supercharger bypass valve, an upgraded fuel pump and injectors, as well as a new high-flow air induction system. Figures – take them seated: 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds and the quarter-mile is handled in 10.5 seconds at 133 mph.
