Since the North American International Auto Show has kindly wrapped the world premieres, we’re now looking for the info that got sidelined by the glam of those official introductions.
So, while peering through the Detroit auto show we also came up with a nifty side info dish concerning the latest Volvo product – after all the Swedish luxury automaker did win the North American Truck/Utility of the Year award with its newish XC90 crossover. But the latter has already been dissected over and over so the fans need another pointer – the SPA platform riding 2017 S90 sedan – also present at the 2016 Detroit auto show to make its official public appearance. And now we also get the spec sheet of the US version, starting with engine choices: turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in T5 dressing, supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder for the T6 plate and supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-liter four inliner assisted by an electric drive unit for the flagship T8 Twin Engine hybrid.
All these powertrains have been already seen on the XC90 crossover, but the novelty concerns the range-topping S90 T8 Twin Engine which has been rated at 410 horsepower, ten ponies up from the iteration found inside the SUV. The other two will have 240 hp and 302 hp, respectively. All engine choices will be mated exclusively to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the petrol/electric engine combo in the S90 T8 Twin Engine will come with ‘through-the-road’ hybrid all-wheel drive. The other come standard with FWD but can also adopt an optional mechanical all-wheel-drive system.
