About a year ago, the Victoria Police took to patrol duties a new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe as a loaner for the next 12 months – and now that time has expired.
The car was on duty with the law enforcement as an operational highway patrol car – and it turns out the Police needs another fast cars to respond quick, and maybe outgun a perp. They have been given a spanking new E43 Sedan instead – with the new ride also dressed in full police livery and called “Guardian V2”. This is another loaner coming from Mercedes-Benz Australia – and we’re pretty sure the proper operational highway patrol car credentials are still in order thanks to the biturbo V6 3.0-liter engine packing 396 horsepower (295 kilowatts) and 384 pound-feet (520 Newton-meters) of torque – all the meat being sent to the tarmac via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The police officers will have no issues driving on wet surfaces thanks to the all-wheel-drive 4Matic setup, and high speed chases will be resolved quickly, thanks to the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) sprint taking a mere 4.6 seconds before topping out at an electronically controlled top speed of 155 mph (250 kph). The performance sedan and its police livery are up for check-out this weekend during the inaugural race of the 2017 Formula 1 championship in Melbourne at the well known Albert Park circuit.
