The Geneva Motor Show has been selected as the proper venue for the eagerly-anticipated debut of the production series Honda Civic Type R, thus making hot hatch fans all over the world rejoice.
And they do have reason to – since the Civic Type R is going to appear in less than three weeks out in the open, as the company has officially confirmed the Civic Type R will be the show grabber at their booth during the 87th Geneva Motor Show next month. The near-production Civic Type R prototype has already made the auto show world round, so there’s no secret for the design of the new generation model. Honda said the Type R has been developed back to back with the regular hatch and thus incurred “mutual benefits to the dynamics and refinement of both vehicles.”
More so, the Japanese automaker confirmed the model will be powered by a new 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo gasoline engine – and it will also be the very first Type R to be sold in the United States. Rumors put it at more than 300 horsepower, with front wheel drive and an exclusive six-speed manual. Production will take place at Honda’s UK factory in Swindon starting this summer, and exported from there to all other markets, including its home base Japan.
