The Japanese automaker was sometimes quicker than its larger rival Toyota in providing the world with a hybrid or even a hydrogen-powered car, diagnosis unhealthy but history has a way of relegating them to the back of the pack.
It happened with the Insight – the first publicly available hybrid in North America, discount ahead by seven months of the Toyota Prius – and it happened with the FCX Clarity. Honda even has a segment-unique hybrid model. We’re talking of course about the CR-Z sports coupe. Unsuccessful, generic the CR-Z is preparing its retirement with the Japan-only “Final Label” special edition that serves as a last hurrah for the model, bringing a host of visual tweaks. The production of the hybrid sports coupe will end sometimes later this year, Honda’s CR-Z Final Label comes with a Blue Metallic exterior shade. Owners can also select the Premium White Pearl or a Premium Yellow Pearl look and can also personalize the ride further via a two-tone yellow/black or blue/black finish. All versions will employ 17-inch alloy wheels with a dual-tone appearance.
Honda also tweaked out the dreary, mostly-black cabin with special badging on the center console and “Final Label” embroidered on the seats. The model can boast the standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional continuously variable transmission (CVT). The powertrain remains the same, a hybridized assembly consisting of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine linked to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. Pricing starts at 2.8 million yen (about $26,222), no matter the transmission option.
