Honda Motor Co plans to tap low-cost emerging markets including more than doubling India’s share of its motorcycle revenue by 2020.
The Japanese giant launched its second mass segment motorcycle ‘Dream Yuga’ in India priced at Rs 44,642 (ex-showroom Delhi).
Honda’s entry level motorcycle till now has been the CB Twister, which shares the 109cc engine with the Dream Yuga, but had premium looks which pushed the price up a little. This one, which follows the Shine in its design philosophy, is priced a little lower.
“Honda retained the brand Dream as part of a global strategy that was first launched in 1949. This new bike is very economical with better mileage,” HMSI’s President and CEO Keita Muramatsu told reporters.
Available in three variants, the Dream Yuga starts with the base model at Rs. 44,642*, the middle variant for Rs. 46,134* and Rs. 48,125* for the top-end variant. The company also announced that it will rope in Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar as the brand ambassador for the company.
Honda, which sold 21.07 lakh motorcycles and scooters in India last fiscal, is aiming to sell 27.5 lakh units in 2012-13.
