Honda announced on Thursday that will recall about 21,700 Civics in U.S. and Canada due to the possibility that fuel will leak in a roll-over crash.
Due to improper ultrasonic welding of the plastic case that houses the rov within the fuel pump module, the case material may break or crack, which may cause the rov to separate from the case and fail to function, thereby increasing the risk of fuel leakage in a roll-over incident.
More than 18,000 cars will be recalled in the US and about more than 3,600 in Canada, the company said.
The automaker also said that dealers will inspect the fuel pump module and if necessary replace the module free of charge. Owners of the recalled vehicles will be informed by mail by mid-April, the company said.
Honda recently recalled nearly 40,000 2006-07 Civic Hybrid models to replace the DC-to-DC converter.
Prices for the 2011 Honda Civic increase a modest $150, though the destination fee rises to $750, from $710. Base price range for the 2011 Civic is $16,555-$27,900.
