More buyers picked V-6 engines than V-8s in Ford F-150 pickups in May. Is V8, V12 time coming to an end in the US?
The crew at Motor Authority has taken to citing unnamed sources as saying that a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine is slated to find its way into the engine bay of the 2015 Ford Mustang. A Mustang with 4 cyl engine?
Of course, to appease the fans, the 5.0-liter V8 will continue to be available but it might be outfitted with direct injection technology to improve fuel efficiency. A source revealed there may be a plan to turbocharge the V8, but nothing is set in stone as of yet.
Given the V6-powered Mustang can already top 30mpg, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the EcoBoost version inch close to 40mpg. In addition to the new 2.3L, Ford is also said to be readying a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 – and that new engine will be used in both front-wheel and rear-wheel drive cars. That means it’s a likely candidate for duty in the Mustang, the Edge crossover SUV, and perhaps the Fusion sedan.
