Hyundai Doubles Production at its Turkish Plant image

Hyudai plans to double annual production at its Assan Otomotiv Sanayi plant in Turkey to 200,000 units annually by the end of next year.

The company took this decision due to growing demand in Europe and Turkey of its A- and B-segment models. Currently the HAOS plant produces the b-segment i20, but after its upgrading it will also manufacture the A-segment i10. Hyundai and its suppliers will invest $607 million in the plant during the following 18 months, adding 750 new jobs.

The year 2012 marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Turkey factory and we have produced more than 700,000 vehicles since 1997, contributing to Turkey’s economy,” said Won-Shin Chang, President & CEO of HAOS, during a ceremony for the launch of production of the facelifted i20.

Hyundai Motor was established in 1967 and currently has over two dozen auto-related affiliates and subsidiaries. The company has six manufacturing plants outside South Korea, in Turkey, Czech Republic, China, the U.S., Russia and India. In 2011 the company managed to sell 4.06 million vehicles worldwide. Hyundai has over 80,000 employees worldwide and produces a full line-up of products including SUVs, commercial vehicles and small to large passenger vehicles.
