Hyundai is teasing us by releasing a rendering of the upcoming luxury G90 sedan, which goes on sale next month in South Korea.
Last week, Hyundai has announced it will launch in December the Genesis luxury brand, in the hope of increasing its earnings. It also intends to enter into the battle with the most important premium brands, like BMW or Mercedes, and to take a large as possible share of the luxury segment. The Genesis line-up will start with two sedans this year, including the existing second-generation Genesis, to be rebranded the “G80”, and the future model Equus sedan which will be renamed “G90”. The latter, is going on sale next month in South Korea, and Hyundai has just released a teaser with the upcoming luxury sedan. Its new range-topping G90 modes, will be named EQ900 in Korea.
It seems from this rendering that Hyundai’s intentions are quite serious for the premium market. The new G90 is revealing a coupe-like elongated allure, a massive radiator grille flanked by stretched and narrowed headlamps, a long hood dominated by the Genesis emblem and with boomerang-type rear lamp cluster that completes the “athletic elegance” of G90. “Genesis’ new large luxury sedan G90 will deliver a concept of ‘New Luxury’ to our customers. The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand”, said Woong-Chul Yang, Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center and Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor. Hyundai wants for its newly formed luxury division to include up to six models by 2020.
