The South Korean based automaker Hyundai has released the first official image with the new i20 WRC racer, which is completely new compared to the current one.
After the second generation of the Hyundai i20 supermini has been officially presented to the public last week, during the 2014 Paris Motor Show, in a premiere, the car manufacturer has started the development of the WRC racer.
“It’s a totally different car compared to current WRC model; the platform is different, the car is longer, lower and wider and it features a new engine, transmission and other components. We will introduce it in competition when we are absolutely sure that it is ready to replace the current Hyundai i20 WRC – we’re not in a rush”, said Michel Nandan, the Hyundai Motorsport Team Principal.
The new Hyundai i20 WRC will be tested to check all systems and to start collecting the valuable data for the future development tests. These are being conducted by the rally driver Bryan Bouffier. The brand new i20 WRC is based on the five-door version of the model and it will come with a tweaked chassis, with new technologies and a high performance engine under its hood. More details on it are limited for the moment.
