The South Korean based automaker Hyundai has officially announced the selling of over 10 million units of the popular Elantra model.
Since it has been launched 24 years ago, the Hyundai Elantra has been sold in just over 10 million units, being basically the company’s top selling model. The car manufacturer has managed to sell more than 45 new Elantras every hour, since it was introduced back in 1990.
“Reaching this historic mark is a testament to Elantra’s staying power and the global appeal of a vehicle that delivers attractive design, functionality and class-leading performance. As a company it also shows our ability to quickly adapt to changing consumer preferences and continue to push the compact car segment with features once reserved for luxury vehicles”, said the company’s chief operating officer, Tak Uk Im.
The Hyundai Elantra has been sold in an average 420,000 units annually or approximately 1,100 units a day. It has also received a few prestigious awards across its lifetime, which include the Autobest in Europe, the North American Car of the Year, the Car of the Year in South Africa and in Canada, all of them in 2012. The model is currently in its fifth generation and it is offered in a coupe, sedan and wagon body styles.
