Hyundai to enter WRC with i20 rally car – goes to Paris Motor Show

The South Korean based automaker Hyundai is planning to enter the World Rally Championship with its own specially modified i20, which will be officially presented to the public at the 2012 Paris Motor Show this month.

According to the guys at automarket.ro, who are citing Rallye Magazine, the rally version of the Hyundai i20 will be officially presented to the public later on this month, during the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The Hyundai i20 aimed for WRC will debut in the prestigious competition starting with the 2014 season. The Hyundai i20 WRC car is currently under development in Offenbach, Germany, where the company’s European headquarters are located.

Our source is also saying that if these rumors will be confirmed, Hyundai will be the seconds car manufacturer to make its debut in the 2014 World Rally Championship season, after Toyota, which has announced a couple of months ago that a Yaris based racer will be soon revealed. Volkswagen is also planning to enter the WRC, along with BMW’s MINI, which is intending to compete as a manufacturer. Unfortunately we don’t have any extra details on the Hyundai i20 WRC car but the model is expected to be presented at the Paris Motor Show on the 27th of September.
