Fans of the British brand that love the great outdoors now have a solution to blend their interests – with the brand enabling adventurists to go “beyond the limits of urban mobility and asphalted roads”.
The new generation Countryman has enough space for five persons, a good enough trunk and even optional AWD – playing in its own particular niche, because it’s a subcompact SUV playing in the near-premium league. Now the UK-based automaker has partnered with Italian company Autohome to deliver a new accessory – a roof tent, inspired by the design of Mini’s current product range. Autohome is specialized in producing roof tents for cars and has more than 50 years of experience doing so.
The special model designed for Mini can be had from the dealerships directly in a choice of two colors, white and black to match the contrasting colors for roof and outside mirror caps of the crossover. Closed it looks like a regular roof box and has been aerodynamically optimized – the tent automatically unfolds and is 94 centimeters (just over 3 feet) high, rain-proof and with “optimum ventilation properties as well as a high level of heat and noise insulation,” but there’s also a high-density mattress with cotton cover, two doors and two windows with zips, close-meshed mosquito nets at all openings, and a battery-operated LED interior light.
