Impact: 7 dead after Van Plunges From Bronx Parkway image

Seven people, including three children are dead after a van went out of control on the Bronx River Parkway and fell off more than 50 feet off the elevated highway authorities said.

According to the New York City Fire Department, the impact happened by East 180th Street and Devoe Avenue in West Farms at 12:30 p.m. and all seven occupants inside the vehicle died.

It’s not clear what caused the van to go out of control.

The vehicle landed in a train yard below that is used by the zoo to store its monorail trains, police said. The names and exact ages of the victims were not disclosed.

The southbound side of the highway was closed while police investigated.

Emergency crews are currently on the scene and all southbound lanes on the Bronx River Parkway remain closed as police investigate.

The accident was the second in the past year where a car fell off the same stretch of the Bronx River Parkway. Last June, the driver of an SUV heading north lost control and the SUV hit a divider, bounced through two lanes of traffic and fell 20 feet over a guardrail, landing on a pickup truck in a parking lot.
