Opel had to face two changes in a short period of time: lost senior executive Alain Visser to General Motors sister brand Chevrolet, but also gained a new board member for operations.
Thomas Sedran, a senior consultant with AlixPartners, will join Opel as vice president, beginning with April 1st and will be in charge of operations, business development and corporate strategies.
The moment for this change is perfect since Opel is losing money at a time when the rest of GM is profitable and so they have to face sharper cost reductions. On the other hand Visser, the senior executive, is moving to Chevrolet where will be in charge of the brand’s global marketing and sharpen Chevrolet’s global market profile, focusing on markets outside South and North America.
“Visser has been an Opel board member since 2004 and has been a key player in the brand’s efforts to return to profitable growth,”sSaid Opel CEO Karl-Friedrich Stracke. “Alain Visser has led the repositioning of Opel and has decisively raised the brand’s image.”
A lot of responsibility now rests on Sedran’s shoulders, which has to map out the new strategy for the struggling company. “He will be a key player as we develop profitable growth strategies for Europe and for export sales as well as collaboration and partnering strategies in the industry,” declared Stracke.
