India auto production grew in April with 5.81%, to 1,721,627 units compared to 1,627,039 in April 2011.
Compared to the same period last year, overall growth in domestic sales in April grew 10.01%. Passenger vehicle sales were up 9.3% in April, passenger cars grew with 3.4%, utility vehicles were up 47.3% and Vans were up 6.74% compared to the same period in 2011. The overall commercial vehicle segment grew 4.37% in April, Light Commercial Vehicles were up 15.8%, while Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles declined with 11.6%.
Three Wheelers sales were down 5.35%, Passenger Carriers down 0.54% and Goods Carriers down 19.9%. Two Wheelers grew with 10.9%, and Mopeds, Motorcycles and Scooters were up 13.8%, 6.54% and 30.2%.
Overall automobile exports in April grew with 1.29%, with Passenger Vehicles down 10.47%, Commercial Vehicles and Three Wheelers down 13.62% and 20.50%. Two Wheelers saw a rise of 9.18% last month.
