Vw’s owned automaker Skoda said it has started production of the new compact sedan, Rapid at its plant in Chakan, near Pune, India.
Skoda Rapid is the first car from the automaker that has been designed exclusively keeping in mind the special needs of the Indian consumers. It will be exclusively manufactured in India as well.
“The first car that was produced at this plant was a SKODA Fabia, and we are happy to roll-out the SKODA Rapid on this occasion,” president and MD of Volkswagen India John Chacko said.
The car will be offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines and the commencement of production of Skoda Rapid is in line with the parent company Skoda Auto’s 2018 growth strategy, which aims to double global sales to at least 1.5 million units.
The car is likely to compete with Toyota’s Etios, Maruti’s Swift DZire, Hyundai’s Accent and M&M’s Verito.
