Infiniti Q60 Project Black S shod in bespoke Pirelli tires image

As part of the process of trickling down Formula One tech onto the street, the Japanese automaker has partnered with Pirelli for custom tires for the coupe project.

Infiniti is working hard in Formula One and wants that to show – for example in the Q60 Project Black S. As part of the endeavor, the automaker has partnered recently with Pirelli for the latter to develop special tires for the coupe. The Black S will thus come equipped with special variants of the Pirelli P Zero tires, and to feature the Formula One connection they will come with colored markings on the sidewalls. The vibrant shade is similar to the ones used for easy identification of the compound on the open-wheel racers.

“As we explore the feasibility of ‘Project Black S’, Pirelli’s input and knowledge, both motorsport and automotive, will be invaluable. We couldn’t be happier to have them onboard,” commented Tommaso Volpe, Director of Infiniti Global Motorsport. Infiniti premiered Q60 Project Black S at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show to serve as a flagship version of the coupe – with motivation from a 3.0-liter biturbo V6, and hybrid assistance to further reference the F1 world. For now the premium coupe is a concept – but researching and developing special tires for a one-off doesn’t actually make much sense, so we should expect Project Black to morph into production.
