A new report coming via Tweeter posts of social media fan chief executive officer Elon Musk, after the X we should see the Y coming – and fans might already jump at the chance of seeing the US electric automaker with a “S – 3 – X – Y” model lineup.
But we should also take all this with a pinch of salt because since the tweet was reported it has already been taken down (fortunately the tech savvy made a cache of it and we can show it to you at the end in the gallery). In the tweet exchange between the billionaire co-founder and CEO and one follower, Musk responded to a question concerning the Model 3. This is Tesla’s upcoming $35, 000 mass-market vehicle, which has been reported to sport not one but more body versions (maybe three, as in the name). The query was about the Model 3 crossover adopting the Falcon Wing doors seen on the luxurious Model X sport utility vehicle, with the company executive responding: “There will be a Model 3 and Model Y. One of the two will.” This shouldn’t come as a complete surprise since the social medialite has already hinted towards a Model 3 derived crossover, which would make complete sense given the very strong demand for such vehicles.
That means Model Y could simply be the moniker for the Model 3-derived crossover. The first body version of the Model 3 range would be showcased to the public as soon as March 2016, with production starting at the end of 2017 and in full swing beginning with 2018. This would assist Tesla in delivering its internal threshold of lifting annual production output to 500,000 units annually by 2020.
