After we’ve just presented some spy images showing the upcoming BMW 2 Series M Convertible, French magazine L’Automobile unveils a render with the M235i Convertible model – so indeed, the rumors about an M235i are true.
As expected the model will be powered by the same engine found under the bonnet of M235i coupe – a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six powerplant that is capable of 320 hp. Of course, the Cabriolet M235i will be a little bit heavier due to the roof retracting mechanism – but overall the entire car will be the same – same engine , gearbox and suspension. Therefore, expect the M235i Cabriolet to hit 100 km/h in about 5 seconds – just 0.1 or 0.2 seconds slower compared to the coupe.
And yes – as you can see from the image, the 2 Series will have a soft top – just as the “old” 1-Series has.
In addition to the M235i, according to some media reports BMW plans an M2 Coupe – a vehicle that likely will deliver “just” 380 hp. The engine under the M2’s bonnet is expected to be the same engine that is found in the M235i Coupe. Also, if the reports are to be true – other versions are likely to include a diesel model, in the 220d Cabrio and two other petrol units – 228i Cabriolet and 220i Cabriolet.
There are no words about when this car will hit the market – but most probably it will be somewhere in 2016.
