Aston Martin has announced its plans to introduce a new platform soon which will be adopted by the company’s future models.
Thirteen years ago, Aston Martin has introduced the original V12 Vanquish and its underlying platform is still around, underpinning every model the company is producing or has produced since then, except for the Cygnet or the One-77 supercar. But time has come for the carmaker to start developing a new architecture, as the company has recently announced.
“We are engineering a completely new architecture and technologies to ensure that our next generation of sports cars is at the forefront of design, performance and technology. The strategic partnership with Daimler AG will bring with it cutting edge electrical and electronic architecture expertise, and the shared development of world-class bespoke V8 powertrains”, said Hanno Kirner, the Aston Martin chief financial officer.
To benefit from the new platform and to start working on future models, Aston Martin has strengthened its capital structure a year ago with new investors and it has expanded its dealer network, opening new dealerships in new markets such as Thailand and Mexico. The new Vanquish Volante and the V12 Vantage S have also played a key role in bringing revenues to the carmaker.
