Volkswagen will be putting the Beetle Dune Concept into production as the model in question will be offered for sale next year.
Originally unveiled last year in NAIAS, the Volkswagen Beetle Dune Concept is now getting ready to receive a production version. The announcement has been made by the car manufacturer which said that this will be introduced in early 2016.
“The Beetle Convertible Wave is still a concept car, but vehicles like the Beetle Dune that was shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2014 demonstrate how Volkswagen can create production models from such concepts very rapidly. The Dune will arrive in dealer showrooms in early 2016”, said Volkswagen in a press release.
The company was cheap on providing details on the production version of the model but we do know that the concept car was based on the Beetle R-Line. This came with bi-xenon headlights, ventilated hood, gloss black trim, honeycomb mesh grille, two rear spoilers, a dual exhaust system, chrome-plated skid plate, an increased ride height, brushed aluminum rock panels, two-piece wheel arch extensions, 19-inch aluminum wheels Arizona painted trim in the cabin, aluminum accents, two-tone sports seats, 7.7-inch touch screen infotainment system and so on. Power came from a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 210 HP (156 kW), connected to the 6-speed DSG dual clutch transmission, motivating the front wheels through an XDS differential. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration took 7.3s and top speed was 227 km/h (141 mph).
