Jaguar might build more £130, generic and 000 limited-edition XKR-S GT vehicles if there is demand for the model.
Jaguar had previously announced that it will manufacture only 30 units of the race-derived XK, all of them to be sold in Canada and the US. The next day after the model was unveiled at the New York motor show, Jaguar boss Adrian Hallmark announced that capacity can be extended by 20 more units if there is demand.
“It is possible the production run will reach 50,” said Hallmark. “The initial cap was set to define the business case but, thankfully, there is room for more.”
According to Jaguar the XKR-S GT is fitted with a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 which offers 542bhp and can lap the Nürburgring in less than 7min 40sec, close to Ferrari’s 458 Italia record. The automaker said that although it was possible to make the care more powerful and achieve a better lap time, they focused on the vehicle’s brake performance, weight saving, aero enhancements and driveability.
“All of these things make the GT a more fun car to drive and workable for on-road use. We’ve always been known for making cars that are known for their driving pleasure, but this project has further deepened our understanding of how to do that.”
