Jaguar is planning to develop new models based on the all-new F-Type Roadster which might hit the market over the following years.
After it made its North American debut during the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show last week, one of the newest model in Jaguar’s lineup, the F-Type, is entering our news once again. Rumors are saying that the British based automaker is planning to produce a Coupe version of the F-Type and development won’t stop here because the carmaker will also develop a front-wheel drive compact car, based on the same model, along with a possible SUV.
“We’re in the eye of a positive storm right now and lower segments is where we want to go. Even though the SUV market is growing, the saloon market is still twice the size, especially in the U.S. A crossover would make more noise for us than a saloon, but we already have SUVs in the company (Land Rover) and we’re not in a rush to do that”, said the Jaguar global brand director, Adrian Hallmark.
The new Jaguar compact car will be based on the JLR steel platform, the same one to underpin the future generation of the Freelander. The model will be around 4.3 meters long and its styling has been apparently finalized. The SUV will be based on the aluminum platform used on the XJ sedan but this is just about all the info we’ve got on these new models for the moment.
