Jaguar plans a model smaller than the XE image

The British based automaker Jaguar is looking into introducing a brand new model, a compact car with front-wheel drive, which will slot below the current XE.

In case you were wondering if Jaguar is planning a model smaller than the current XE, the answer is yes, but in between a simple idea and a car ready for dealerships there are a lot of steps, so expect quite some time between an official announcement and a final vehicle. Such a model hasn’t been officially confirmed at this time but it is actually part of a report published by Motoring. Our source is quoting Ian Callum, the Jaguar design director, who says that there is a huge opportunity in the small car market.

He stopped short of saying there is an entry-level model in the works but he said that such a car is being considered, without stating if it was actually green lighted. The Jaguar official also stated that the brand new entry-level model would most likely be front-wheel drive. This basically means that Jaguar is preparing a compact sedan for the C-segment meaning that it will be going up against models such as the BMW 2-Series Coupe, the Audi A3 Sedan and the Mercedes-Benz CLA. The model will probably get an entirely new platform but it may share some of the components with the XE. Additional details on it are limited for the moment and will probably be announced over the next few years, if it turns out to be true.
