Jaguar XF voted most desirable towing vehicle image

The Jaguar XF has picked up the ‘Money No Object’ Award at the Towcar Awards 2009. Chosen by experts from Practical Caravan, What Car? and The Camping and Caravanning Club, the XF was hailed the most desirable towing vehicle among 39 competitors.

David Motton, Towcar Awards head judge, said: “If money was no object, this is the car we’d choose to do our towing with. The 3.0-litre Diesel S engine is superb, yet it’s also savagely powerful when the occasion demands, pulling car and caravan from 30-60mph in just 8.3 seconds.
“It pulled a caravan securely between cones at speeds which would have had lesser cars sliding off the track. Driven at sensible speeds, it’s a serene and relaxed experience. In spite of the performance, it’s an easy car to drive smoothly, with precise steering and remarkable agility for such a big car, towing or solo. It is quick, stable and comfortable – if you’re feeling flush this is the car.”

Attributes considered when testing the cars included; towing stability, solo driving based on What Car? magazine’s road test verdicts, practicality, buying and owning.

Geoff Cousins, Jaguar’s UK Managing Director commented: “Winning this award is testament to the versatility of the XF, its outstanding dynamics and the excellent refinement of the recently introduced 3.0-litre Diesel engine. This fantastic new Jaguar has best-in-class residual values*, class-leading fuel economy combined with unrivalled performance and reduced CO2 emissions – making it an irresistible choice for the towing customer.”

The 2009 judging panel in 2009 included Steve Cropley, a European Car of the Year juror and editor-in-chief of Autocar magazine and Sue Taylor, features editor of Camping and Caravanning magazine for over ten years. Sue has a wealth of experience towing both horseboxes and trailers.
The Jaguar XF 3.0-litre Diesel S is the most advanced, powerful and efficient Jaguar diesel ever. The new 275PS high-performance XF Diesel S features Jaguar’s new V63.0-litre diesel engine delivering a massive 600Nm of torque.
Reaching 0-60mph in just 5.9 seconds and with a maximum speed of 155mph, the XF Diesel S has a combined fuel economy of 42.0mpg and emits just 179g/km CO2.
