Following the initial preview late last year, Jannarelly Automotive’s Design-1 $55,000 roadster has been unveiled and the retro-flavored model looks decidedly ready to take it to the roads.
The company decided to test the waters first by staging public and private debuts at various events in Dubai, showcasing a prototype of the Design-1. Jannarelly again says the development is advancing according to schedule and will be able to deliver first units this summer after claiming it has already nailed 20 confirmed orders for stylish model. Besides Dubai, the firm has also nailed an agreement for distribution of the sports car with Marcassus Sport in Toulouse, France. There are no prospective partners for the North American region though, “We are talking with several importers and we are still open to new ones,” founder Anthony Jannarelly commented.
The Design-1’s styling takes inspiration and honors classic models such as the Ferrari Testarossa and Jaguar D-Type. It comes with a steel tubular chassis, as well as either fiberglass or carbon fiber body. Behind the driver breaths a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 delivering via a six-speed manual gearbox a total of 304 horsepower and 274 pound-feet of torque to the rear axle. Jannarelly said they focused on acceleration times and the sprint to 62 mph will last about four seconds – but the retro roadster will top out at a measly 135 mph. Design-1’s Special Launching Edition is going to be priced at just $55,000 – a bargain considering the boutique sports car lineage.
