Chevrolet has decided to join the roster of automakers offering extremely limited and exclusive special editions, delivering a Japan-only series of just 15 units of the Captiva Perfect Black.
But somehow we’re quite sure the model will not go down in history as the more exclusive collectible. That’s because even in its JDM-spec livery the Captiva is not the most interesting midsize SUV on sale nowadays. Still, the automaker has faith in its prowess, the bowtie brand’s engineers and designers having dressed up the model in Perfect Black. That means some black accents for this special edition only available for purchase in the Land of the Rising Sun. The lack treatment is bestowed upon just about the entirety of the car save for the roof rails and some chrome parts – and as a further sweetener Chevrolet will also deliver some two-tone body decals and also increase the wheel set size to 19 inches.
Inside, the Captiva Perfect Black comes with standard black leather upholstery, heated first and second row seats as well as rear-seat entertainment system made up of a 10.2-inch screen, DVD player, and a TV tuner. The powertrain is the same – a 2.4-liter Ecotec linked to a standard on-demand all-wheel-drive system. Just 15 units are available and orders will be taken starting July 2 with customers having to pay ¥4,090,000 (almost $40,000) as a starting price. The model does get lots of standard equipment: Parking Assist (front & rear sensors, camera), Descent Control System (DSC), Side Blind Zone Alert, and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
