Jeep has announced that a powerful version of the Grand Cherokee SRT8 will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and it will go on sale in the UK, in right-hand drive, right after the German event.
The most powerful Grand Cherokee yet is powered by a new 6.4 liter Hemi V8 engine, delivering 464 BHP and 630 Nm of torque, 49 BHP and 61 Nm more than its 6.1 liter V8 predecessor, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 158 mph.
The new Grand Cherokee is fitted with a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down half of the pistons under light engine loads, but even so the fuel consumption has been improved only by 12 percent, to under 20 mpg.
“The all-new Grand Cherokee SRT8 is the ultimate performance SUV, delivering a combination of Jeep capability and utility, world-class performance, luxury and refinement, and advanced innovative technology”, said the Chrysler Group president and CEO, Mike Manley.
The European Jeep Grand Cherokee will be available in only a single trim level, with sat-nav, twin sunroof, adaptive cruise control, active dampers, sports seats, lowered suspension and LED daytime running lights, priced at around 50.000 British pounds.
