Jim Harbaugh has been picked in order to drive the Indy 500 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray pace car, as the company has recently announced.
The NFL San Francisco 49ers head coach, Jim Harbaugh, has been chosen to drive the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray pace car, to lead the 33 racers at the start of the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500, this Sunday.
“As a longtime racing fan and someone who has always followed the Indianapolis 500, the honor to drive the pace car comes as a tremendous thrill,” said Harbaugh. “Doing it in the all-new 2014 Corvette Stingray makes it even better. It’s an iconic car leading an iconic race.”
The Corvette Stingray in question is finished in Laguna Blue and it has “Indianapolis 500” decals and other graphics on its body. Chevy says that the 2014 Corvette Stingray pace car will be fitted with the Z51 Performance Package, which is adding an electronic limited-slip differential, differential and transmission cooling, dry-sump oil system, new upgraded brakes and an aerodynamic package. The 97th Indianapolis will represent the 12th time when a Corvette has been commissioned for pace car duties and the first ever one to serve as a pace car was the 1948 Fleetmaster.
