Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick Justin Blackmon has pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated DUI in Stillwater, Okla., AP reports.
Blackmon was arrested for aggravated DUI in June after he was pulled over for speeding and police smelled alcohol on his breath. A breathalyzer test showed Blackmon to have a BAC of .24, three times the legal limit.
Blackmon was not in the courtroom and defense attorney Cheryl Ramsey appeared in Payne County District Court on his behalf.
Special Judge Michael Stano accepted the plea to a misdemeanor aggravated DUI and deferred formal sentencing for a year. If Blackmon fulfills the sentence’s terms, he will avoid jail time.
Though he will not serve any time in jail, it is still yet to be determined what, if any, punishment will be levied by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. It is thought that since the arrest was Blackmon’s first official charge for DUI, the league will impose a fine, with admission into the league’s substance abuse program, but no loss of game time.
Jacksonville begins training camp on Friday. Blackmon was the Jaguars’ first-round pick in April’s NFL draft, taken with the fourth overall selection.
