Kalina NFR is Lada’s fastest production model ever, comes packing 136 hp image

The Russian automaker, the bestselling brand in the country, has recently unveiled details concerning the Kalina NFR – their version of a hot hatch, due to hit the production lines very soon.

You might find it hard to believe but Lada actually has an entry in the WTCC series where it has decided to take on big names such as Honda, Citroen, and Polestar – using there a circuit-exclusive version of the Vesta model. It is hard to imagine because the Russian brand’s road cars are hardly the fastest or most powerful models out there. Now the Russian constructor has decided to change that perception and the first nail in the status quo coffin may be the release of the Kalina NFR, claimed to be the fastest production model of Lada. The mild hot hatch has under the hood a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine that delivers 136 horsepower (100 kilowatts). It has been treated to an updated five-speed manual transmission and wile be able to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9.2 seconds and a top speed of 126 mph (203 km/h).

Lada has also detailed the Kalina NFR a bit: it packs a sports tuned suspension and steering system, with bigger and more efficient brakes, ABS and EBD. Amenities found inside include manual air conditioner, heated sports cloth seats, heated mirrors, parking sensors, automatic wipers and headlights, and a four-speaker audio system with seven-inch control display. During the first year of production the model will be very exclusive at just 50 units produced and a price of $12,139.
