Kia Motors said on Tuesday that has sold 216,603 vehicles during October, an increase of 18.8 percent compared to corresponding period last year.
The Seoul based automaker posted strong double-digit year-on-year sales increases in many of its major sales regions.
China: 44,009 units sold, up 41.4 percent, Europe 45,810 units sold, up 35.4 percent, United States 42,870 units sold, up 20.1 percent.
In Korea, KIA’s home market, the second-largest automobile manufacturer of the country posted a decline of 4.3 percent to 41,302 units.
“The all-new Picanto and Rio compact vehicles have been earning praise from motoring media and consumers alike, and have provided a boost to sales heading into the remainder of 2011,” said Tae-Hyun (Thomas Oh), Senior Executive Vice President & COO, Kia Motors Corp.
The company said that the Sportage compact CUV sales were 30,622 units for October 2011.
The Korean automaker plans to build a third manufacturing plant in China with an annual production capacity of 300,000 cars.
The construction of the new plant is scheduled to start at the end of 2012 and expected to commence production in the second half of 2014.
Kia operates 13 plants in eight countries including India and the United States. It is an affiliate of South Korea’s largest automaker, Hyundai Motor.
