The South Korean based automaker Kia is planning to expand the GT lineup by adding new models into the range.
The car manufacturer has already unveiled a GT sports car one and a half years ago, during the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, in a concept form, and, since then, the company has confirmed that the GT sports coupe will be put into production, along with the new Rio GT. The upcoming Kia GT sports car will be “less pure than the Toyota GT 86” but it will offer more comfort and it might gain some customers who are looking for “cute” two-door coupe that doesn’t necessarily offer a sports car feel.
The Kia Europe boss, Benny Oeyen, has recently confirmed the new Kia GT lineup and said that the upcoming Rio GT will get a 1.6 liter turbocharged engine, which should produce approximately 200 HP. This is in the new Kia Pro_Cee’d GT zone, which is the company’s first hot hatch. The Kia Pro_Cee’d GT has been officially presented to the public during the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and it’s powered by a 1.6 liter GDi turbo engine, generating 204 HP (150 kW) and 265 Nm of torque (195 lb-ft). Additional details on Kia’s GT lineup remain unknown for the moment.
