The South Korean based automaker Kia is planning to rival the Mercedes-Benz CLS by 2016 and the model is expected to the based on the GT Concept car.
After a rumor said that Hyundai will compete with the new BMW 3-Series next year, Kia is being placed into the spotlights by the guys at autoexpress.co.uk, who are saying that the car manufacturer might develop a direct competitor for models like the Mercedes-Benz CLS or the Audi A7. The future model to wear the Kia logos on its body is expected to be based on the GT Concept and it will get rear-wheel drive and the platform that underpins the K9 / Quoris. The ambitious model should hit the market in 2016.
As a quick reminder, the Kia GT Concept, the model on which the future CLS competitor will be based upon, was officially presented to the public in a world premiere last year. The Kia GT Concept came with the company’s new styling direction, with copper window trim, a unique front fascia, LED headlights, rear-hinged doors, a propeller-style carbon fiber / alloy wheels, rear diffuser and more. The model was powered by a 3.3 liter V6 engine, producing 390 HP and 534 Nm of torque (394 lb-ft), mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear-wheel drive.
